Solvatten is pleased to announce that it has signed a distribution agreement for the Country of PERU with ECOARKI SAC to expand the reach of Solvatten starting with the rural and disadvantaged districts of TIQUILLACA, VILQUE and MAÑAZO in PUNO, PERU. This new partnership is the starting point of an increasing Solvatten distribution network in the Latin American region.

“We are very pleased to add EcoArki’s executive and selling capability and the value added approach they bring to the Peruvian people and the environment through its valuable professional presence in the region” says Petra Wadström, CEO and inventor of Solvatten.

Recently in a Ceremony in the Royal Natural History Museum in London, SOLVATTEN was awarded the “INTERNATIONAL GREEN AWARD“ as the Best Green Product Innovation. In this same event , Executive Director of EcoArki, Rodolfo Beltrán, former CEO of AGRORURAL, Minister of Agriculture’s Rural development program, was awarded the first place for his involvement in the Peruvian project, “The AGRORURAL, 230 Million Tree Campaign” under the umbrella of UNEP’s Billion Tree Campaign.

EcoArki´s associates have an extensive experience in the rural scenario and dealing with International Cooperation Agencies in developing countries, Multi Lateral Agencies, Public Offices, Central, Regional and Municipal Governments, and turning successful projects into public policies.

Inventor of Solvatten, Petra Wadström, wins the DesigNu Award

2 February 2012. In conjunction with the opening of a new Swedish Design Hall in Stockholm, Petra Wadström has been honored for Solvatten.

The jury stated:

”Solvatten treats water with the energy of the sun. The user-friendly product is ingeniously designed to treat, heat and store water. Solvatten sets an example for how innovation and an in-depth understanding of consumer needs can solve one of the world’s biggest problems and save lives.”

The organization behind the prize, Formmuseets Vänner, awards the prize biannually to highlight the importance of contemporary design.

More than 500 people attended the truly inspirational event.

Government of Haiti purchases SOLVATTEN

The Ministry of Environment in Haiti has purchased SOLVATTEN Safe Water System, to launch a large health, environment and empowerment program called The Green Haiti Project. This five year initiative will provide Haitian families with environmentally-friendly household kits including energy efficient cook stoves, solar lamps and Solvatten. Furthermore the beneficiaries will be educated and involved in planting trees and protect natural resources. This initiative supports the national objectives to rebuild Haiti in a socio-economical and ecological way. Fondation Seguin, a Haitian environmental NGO will manage the Green Haiti Project with its partners to achieve this ambitious long term goal.

Serge Cantave Jr, Executif Director, Fondation Seguin:

“We want to live in a better country, a greener and more sustainable Haiti. Urgent action is required to halt the progressive and frightening deterioration and destruction of the environment in Seguin (South East Haiti) before it is too late. It is necessary that we all get involved in the future of our country in every relevant sector, particularly in programs for environmental protection.”

Unsustainable use of resources has contributed to Haiti’s poverty, and many of those same problems are now impeding its recovery directly. For instance tree cover is crucial to prevent soil erosion yet deforestation continues at an alarming rate. Forest cover in the country has been reduced from 60% to less that 2% by savage and uncontrolled logging. With its largest city in ruins and a decentralization plan, thousands of Haitians have been relocated to the countryside for subsistence living and other small commerce programs, but this countryside is bereft of trees, has poor soil and inadequate water supply. Misuse of natural resources contributes to many of the disasters and the country lacks the economic strength to withstand and recover from the destruction.

AMREF (the African Medical and Research Foundation) is now including Solvatten in a project called PHASE – Personal Hygiene and Sanitation Education – which will reach about 10 000 people in rural areas of Nabweru, Uganda. AMREF and Solvatten AB share the vision of providing sustainable health solutions to vulnerable people, so they can escape poverty. Voluntary carbon offsetting with Solvatten and U&W in Uganda

90 Solvatten units have now reached Uganda. They will be used in a pilot study, funded by the French embassy in Kampala and the international pharmaceutical company Roche. In the first few months data will be collected to establish the fuel wood savings and the carbon emission reductions with Solvatten, as well as social impact. In time the units will become part of a project for voluntary carbon offsetting. The project was initiated by Solvatten AB and U&W [you&we] and now also involves the project developer myclimate as well as a partner called Ecotrust in Uganda. Both Solvatten AB and U&W [you&we] are very excited about this new high quality offsetting option that has so many benefits for the climate, environment and local communities.

SOLVATTEN winner at the International Green Award in the category Best Green Product Innovation

SOLVATTEN- Solar Safe Water System, was announced winner in the category Best Green Product Innovation “by being a truly transformative solution with significant environmental impact and social benefits. The product exhibits sustainability through the entire supply chain and is setting a new standard for household water treatment.” Solvatten outran Puma, Electrolux, Nissan and Samsung competing in the same category.

The winners was announced at a gala dinner on 24th November 2011 at the Natural History Museum, London. The International Green Awards recognise innovative and creative approaches to sustainability. The Awards are internationally established and showcase best practices in sustainability across business, government and citizen initiatives.
