Verifications of Solvatten
Laboratory tests at Norrvatten AB, Stockholm, Sweden, 2004: A temperature of 60°C was reached and E-coli bacteria were destroyed when water in the Solvatten unit was exposed to UV-A light for two hours.
Field studies by Solvatten AB in Australia, Indonesia, South Africa and Sweden 2003 – 2008: Solvatten tested in various weather conditions. In sunny conditions the water reached 60ºC within 4-5 hours, which was higher than similar competitors. Critical parameters are wind, rain and angle to the sun.
Field study by Stockholms Miljöcentrum and Vi Skogen, Kitale, Kenya April-June 2007: This study found that user acceptance of Solvatten was very high in comparison to other water treatment options.
Research program with UN-Habitat/ENPHO and The Institute of Engineering, Kathmandu, Nepal, May – Dec 2007: Tests showed that Solvatten, which uses both heat and UV radiation, was more effective in reducing faecal coli forms than heating alone. The water in Solvatten became free of fecal coliforms at 55°C.
Verification of the Solvatten water purification system by the Swedish Environmental Research Institute Ltd, 2008: The results indicated that the Solvatten unit should be exposed to more than 170Wh/m2 of UV290-400 to produce safe water and a temperature of 55ºC.
”Solvatten – sustainable product development” Candidate project by final year students at the Department of Technical Design and Engineering, Chalmers University, Sweden January-May 2009: Product and manufacturing analysis. Reported a sustainable, environmentally friendly perspective using FDA-approved plastic.
”Verification of SOLVATTEN water purification system,” by the Department of Molecular Biology and Technology of the University of Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania Feb 2009: The results showed that the water quality is satisfactory according to WHO standards of Safe Drinking Water. The study also verified the test results from similar studies carried out previously in Nepal and Sweden.
