90 Solvatten units have now reached Uganda. They will be used in a pilot study, funded by the French embassy in Kampala and the international pharmaceutical company Roche. In the first few months data will be collected to establish the fuel wood savings and the carbon emission reductions with Solvatten, as well as social impact. In time the units will become part of a project for voluntary carbon offsetting. The project was initiated by Solvatten AB and U&W [you&we] and now also involves the project developer myclimate as well as a partner called Ecotrust in Uganda. Both Solvatten AB and U&W [you&we] are very excited about this new high quality offsetting option that has so many benefits for the climate, environment and local communities.

Solvatten has been selected by the Swedish-American Chamber of Commerce in New York as the winner of the 2011 Deloitte Green Award. It was presented by HRH Princess Madeleine of Sweden at a Royal Gala Dinner on November 1.
Petra Wadström, founder and CEO of Solvatten AB:
”We are thrilled about winning this award. Solvatten has changed families’ lives for the better in so many ways, and does so in a sustainable way. We hear about improvements in health, more time for school and energy savings of around 50%. Solvatten may sound simple but it’s a high quality product reaching people living on less than two dollars a day. Being truly sustainable and going green has to be done by encouraging savings and wise investments at many levels. Some argue that it is too expensive and complicated to do anything about the changing climate, or they don’t know where to begin, but the recognition we have got from this award show that people recognize Solvatten as a practical and sustainable solution. To win this award will also help Solvatten to reach an american audience and the fast growing international green market”.
About the Award
